Why has God eluded us?

There is hardly any person in the world who does not worship God or some divine power, considering it to be God. Many atheists too secretly offer prayers or show devotion to some higher power. But in spite of so many places of worship, so many faiths, so many ways of showing devotion, there is hardly any peace and joy in the lives of the mankind inhabiting the planet earth. We sing hymns, offer prayers, do good deeds and even offer charity, all in the name of God, but still our lives continue to be haunted by the ghosts of worries, tensions, diseases and sorrows.

If worship of God cannot bring one peace and joy, then of what use is such worship? This is the very bitter truth to which Lord Krishna tries to wake us up through his teachings recorded in the Bhagavad Gita. He says clearly that all methods of worshipping, all meditations, all philosophies and all moral mores are useless. And then he goes on to say that there is but one supreme way of reaching God and attaining everlasting peace, joy and freedom from all miseries.
